Getting your head into water difficult. Isn't? The swimming coach didn't think so. I was sure, it is difficult and I don't need to know swimming unless there is way to keep my head outside water. No coach I knew, knew that technique.
Even when we went to Ganges river, I took a bucket and mug for bathing.
I waited and waited till I turned 35. Now Vaishnavi wanted to jump into pool. I was forced to take her to swimming class. She was just 4 then. I was scared to leave her in toddler pool even.
As saying goes, child is father of man, she became my mother in teaching me swimming.
When I saw her putting her head into water effortlessly and jumping out with joy, I slowly started to try myself. Her first exercise was to collect small pebbles from the toddler pool with her head inside water. I kept seeing her how she does it. I copied . Yes, I could collect 2 pebbles when she collected 5. My confidence level started moving up and my fear coming down.
It didn't seem that difficult like I thought. It is a relaxing experience when you could float with your back. You will never allow yourself to gain weight as you will want yourself to be in your best structure when you put on that swim suit.
Whenever we get into pool, Vaishnavi makes sure, I am in a safe 5 ft depth before she moves to deeper place. Always encourages me with her words.
I could swim across while she can swim the length.
Lesson Learnt : When you are afraid of something, do it, fear will vanish.
